Meet Sarah Corbett, the latest teacher to join the team at Adore. In this profile, Sarah shares some of her experiences and passions as a dedicated teacher of Hatha and Insight Yoga. Welcome, Sarah!

AY: How and why did you first start yoga?
SC: My interest in yoga began at the age of 12 when picking up one of my Grandmother's yoga books. I think it was called 'Unisex Yoga' and I was fascinated by the half naked photographs of a man and woman in contorted poses!
AY: Who or what is your greatest influence ?
SC: That would have to be my grandmother again. She had so much spirit and zest for life. She was always ready to party and yet we managed to sit and have a perfectly cooked roast Sunday lunch every time we all descended on her. She taught me how to make a bed properly before sheets had elastic in them and iron a shirt and to turn my underwear inside out to save on washing !! Fortunately, I don't need to do ANY of these things these days....
AY: What do you love most about yoga ?
SC: There are so many things but mostly yoga never lets me down. No matter what's happening in my life, I always feel better after practicing. I can do yoga anywhere, even at the airport. It's the most portable form of exercise I've ever done and you feel relaxed afterwards too !
AY: What did you do before becoming a yoga teacher ?
SC: I left University with a Business degree and headed straight into the City in London where I was a broker and underwriter at Lloyd's for 12 years. I nearly lost my first baby while I was 7 months pregnant after a misdiagnosed burst appendix. It was a long road to recovery and I had a lot to live for with a premature baby. Six years ago I completed my RYT 500 hour program with Yoga Alliance in the USA and have continued studying with many wonderful teachers over the years. I've been learning more recently with Sarah Powers and am a Yin/Yang certified teacher now too.
AY: What do you do when you're not on the yoga mat ?
SC: My favourite thing to do would be to go to the beach or for a long walk if it's not too hot. If I don't have the time, I'll settle for sitting in the garden with a cup of tea ! Other than those savoured moments, I'm usually racing the boys to their activities.
AY: Tell us about your family
SC: I'm lucky, I have 2 beautiful boys and a loving husband and 2 mini Schnauzers. My Mum and Dad are in England and my beloved sister is in the US. I miss them terribly ! We text or e mail nearly everyday. I have lots of family in Singapore and on my husband's side in Australia.
AY: How do you motivate yourself to do your practice on those days when you just don't feel like it?
Usually it's because I feel I don't have time so I tell myself 'Just 2 minutes'. Then somehow 2 minutes turns into 10 or 20.......
AY: What advice would you give a new student?
SC: I would say 'Put aside your expectations. Just begin by learning to listen to your breath, observe yourself and no one else !'
Sarah is teaching a new 5 week Insight Yoga course at 9.15am on Mondays from 21 November 2011. Book this course.
Insight Yoga
This style of yoga combines traditional yoga with Yin and Yang sequences designed specifically to target the meridians or energy channels of the body. It is restorative in style with longer held poses which helps to cultivate a meditative practice. Emphasis is placed on the breath which directly influences the distribution of energy. It is suitable for all levels of yoga practitioners and no experience is necessary.
